Abstract

In this paper we investigate the properties known of Greek fire and determine a pressure required
to launch a possible substance 15 m, as it was used in close quarters naval engagements. We find
a pressure difference to be 60 kPa above atmospheric pressure, well within the capabilities of the
technology the Byzantines had access to.
