Abstract

This paper calculates the force required for Mario to jump in close proximity to a black hole, as shown in Super Mario Galaxy. This value, FJ , was found to be 6.67×1016 N. We applied this value to a similar jump on Earth and determined that the velocity when Mario leaves the ground is 4.54×107ms−1 or approximately 0.15 c. This value is significantly higher than Earth’s escape velocity indicating Mario would never return to Earth if he jumped on the spot.
