Abstract

In the extended edition of 'Lord of the Rings: Return of the King', the eye of Sauron sees Frodo Baggins at the edge of Mount Doom. Using the Rayleigh criterion the minimum diameter of the Eye's pupil was calculated to be 3.08 cm to resolve Frodo. We found this diameter to be ~ 26x the average size of a cat's pupil.
