About the Journal

Aims

Originally Museological Review was published both online and in hard copy; later on, it became an electronic journal only. It is edited by a team of students (the editorial board) who volunteer yearly for the roles of one editor-in-chief and a small group of editors. MR is an open community engaged with contemporary subjects that uses the museum studies’ perspective to make a contribution to knowledge. It includes research and practice-based research in museum-related fields through a variety of formats, disciplines and nationalities. MR is an accessible, learning-based journal that holds content by graduated students (MA and PhD) as well as early career researchers and practitioners.

What are our aims?

  • To communicate current, innovative and interdisciplinary museum-related research and practice-based research from both UK and overseas
  • To offer a supportive and learning opportunity for authors that are starting to pursue a career in the publishing world or that are in an early stage of their academic career
  • To act as a visible and dynamic platform of the PhD community of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester

What defines us?

  • Supportive (learning-based): MR is a learning experience for authors, editors and peer-reviewers in the early stages of their academic/professional careers wishing to develop their academic publishing skills.
  • Innovative: MR is interested in publishing current research in the museum-related field, that is open to new formats beyond the academic article and that brings together theory and practice in original ways.
  • Inclusive: based on the international and interdisciplinary profile of the community of Museum Studies, MR will show research carried out in other parts of the world and from a wide range of museum-related disciplines.
  • Critical and academic: MR is interested in editing pieces that satisfy the general requirements of academic publishing (well-evidenced, fair and precise) and that open discussion on the field through debate, challenge and originality.
