P5 1 Skipping Stones
Abstract
We have wondered "How far can a stone be skipped given the perfect conditions?". Can we theoretically skip a stone across a large lake? We calculated the maximum distance covered if a major league baseball player were to throw a stone at the perfect angle on a flat body of still water. This required several assumptions and our final value in the end was approximately 38km. That's more than the English Channel!
