The Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) is an interdisciplinary centre of excellence. Dedicated to creating a collaborative and inspiring environment, it brings together researchers from across all disciplines to deliver ambitious, transformative, and impactful research.

The Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) Working Paper Series is intended to:

  • Provide a mechanism for publishing interdisciplinary research in a range of formats including preliminary findings, position papers, critical reflection papers, and policy briefs

  • Support the publication of provocation papers, aimed at stimulating debate about emerging research areas and complex research questions

  • Make interdisciplinary research and debates available within and beyond the academy, through open access publishing.

Peer Review Process

The Academic Editor for the Series is the Director of LIAS.

Each submission will be refereed by the Editor, who will share the submission with up to three internal reviewers (i.e. University of Leicester staff). Where the paper does not closely align with University of Leicester staff expertise, the Editor reserves the right to offer the paper to review externally.

The initial refereeing will be ‘light touch’ so that authors receive initial feedback typically no more than six weeks after submitting their papers.

The Editor reserves the right to immediately reject unsuitable material. The Editor’s decision is final.

The author is encouraged to contact the Institute Office, who will promote the paper.

If you subsequently submit the article to a journal, please check whether they have a policy on ‘pre-printing’ material in working or provocation paper series prior to journal publication. Many journals accept pre-prints, but may have requirements to which you will need to adhere.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

We do not charge article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees.

Copyright is retained by the authors, unless otherwise stated.

Terms of re-use: all rights reserved. Please contact the authors if you wish to re-use a paper.

Author archiving policy

Unless otherwise stated, authors can archive pre-print and post-print versions of their article. The author’s pre-print (i.e. pre-refereeing) can be archived in pre-print servers or the author’s website. The published source must be acknowledged, and there must be a link to the published version when available.

The author’s post-print (i.e. final draft post-refereeing) can be archived in institutional and society repositories, PubMed Central, ArXiv and the author's personal website. The published source must be acknowledged, and there must be a link to the published version. The published version/pdf can be used.

There are no embargo periods.

Archiving

This journal utilizes the PKP Private LOCKSS network (PLN) to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
