University of Leicester Open Journals

We are an open access publisher supporting community-run journals at the University of Leicester. We currently publish in the areas of museum studies, the teaching of physical sciences and interdisciplinary research. We also support several teaching modules that run student-led journals as part of their program.

University of Leicester Open Journals works on a so-called diamond model where there are no open access charges for authors. The service is run by the University Library as part of its support for open publishing and open research. Further information on our services and polices is available on the Library website

Our platform is hosted by PKP Publishing Services.

Journals

  • New Directions in the Teaching of Natural Sciences

The journal exists to showcase and disseminate innovation and research in the teaching of Natural Sciences in higher education. The journal seeks to promote developments in teaching and learning to practitioners and to the wider community through the publication of short reports and reviews and to support and encourage evidence-based teaching through the publication of research articles, particularly in the early stages of development.

  • Museum & Society

Founded in 2003, Museum & Society (M&S) is the leading open access journal in Museum Studies. We are an independent peer-reviewed journal which publishes new writing and research by academics and museum professionals about museums in their social contexts. The journal is both international in scope and at the cutting edge of empirical and theoretical research.

Our objective is to explore the museum-society relationship in all its variety by encouraging research that represents the broad spectrum of the social sciences (anthropology, economics, educational studies, human geography, social psychology, and sociology) as well as relevant historical, scientific, and humanistic studies. M&S is interested in how museum practice (past and present) resonates with social issues and problems.

  • LIAS Working Paper Series

The Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies Working Papers Series publishes interdisciplinary research in a range of formats including preliminary findings, position papers, critical reflection papers, and policy briefs.

We support the publication of provocation papers, aimed at stimulating debate about emerging research areas and complex research questions. LIAS Working Papers aims to make interdisciplinary research and debates available within and beyond the academy, through open access publishing.
